6600GT high DPC latency @ 40C
I recently upgraded from a GeForce FX5200 to a 6600GT. I found no real improvement in gameplay, in fact many games played slower. On investigation, (trawling through forums, etc) I found that I was getting high DPC latency whenever the GPU was even slightly taxed. The high latency persists after a full reinstall of windows (to fully rule out a driver issue).
At idle, the temp is 35C. Latency is fine until the temp reaches 38C. Obviously, this doesn't take long!!!
I would be grateful of any insight that the experts can give!
Full specs are in my sig. This isn't a high-powered gaming rig as I don't play a lot of games, but those I do play (e.g. MS Flight Sim 2004) I would like to run a little better!

I am bringing my problem back to the fore now that the forums have been re-launched, hopefully someone will have an answer. Since writing my last post, I have upgraded my RAM to 2GB (2X1GB DDR 400 PC3200). I have tried using the oldest available drivers from Nvidia (ForceWare 84.21) and the latency is dramatically reduced but doesn't disappear, and a lot of features are reduced. with the latest drivers latency hits 1 tenthof a second! this occurs around 40C, reduces from about 42C, and returns from about 45C. Am I expecting too much from my (aging) PC, or is there something wrong with the GPU? I would be grateful for any insight anyone can give!

Try driver 175.16 WHQL. Last I remember this is one of the best drivers for GeForce 6000/ 7000 series. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.16_whql.html Also try updating the drivers of your chipset and sound card.

Thanks. That works much better. The DPC latency is less than 50 us all the time with occasional spikes at random. Chipset and sound drivers are at latest versions.
