Gtx 680, bad performance?
Hi.

I bought a gtx 680.

My other specs are:

Motherboard: ASUS P6T SE X58 S-1366 ATX
Memmory: CORSAIR 6GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I7 9XX PC12800 1600MHZ + 2gb more, so 8 gb total
Cpu: INTEL CORE I7 950 3.06GHZ 8MB S-1366
Psu: COOLER MASTER SILENT PRO M ATX12V 2.3 700W
Hdd: WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 640GB 7200RPM SATA/300 32MB

Resolution: 1920x1080 120hz

When i play Battlefield 3 i get a very decent fps. I can play multiplayer on ultra settings without any slow gameplay.

But!
When i play anything else, my fps is so low its even lower than my old Gtx 460 sometimes.
A few examples are:

Borderlands:
In borderlands i have 5-15 fps LOWER with gtx 680 (!?!?) than with my old gtx 460. (NOTE THAT I HAVE DISABLED THE 62 MAX FPS)

BM: Arkham City:
This game is unplayable for me with DX11, its too stuttering when i turn around in fights in the city. And the fps rarely goes above 60. (The game is patched)

Red faction: Armageddon:
This game, with dx 9, no AA everything else maxed out, the fps dipped down to 35 sometimes when i destroyed buildings? With dx9?!!?
When i use DX11 and all settings maxed out (NO AA) the fps is around 30-70.
It feels slow

Serious sam 3:
Here i have 70 fps on a small multiplayer map.
A whopping 20-30 fps increase from my old gtx 460.

Assassins creed revelations:
In this game it fealt nice in the beginning but as soon as i entered a big building complex the fps dipped below 50.

3dmarks11:
8400 score.

Also tested the card in my girlfriends new computer.

System specs:
HD WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR GREEN 1.5TB SATA/600 64MB
CPU: INTEL CORE I7 2600 3.40GHZ 8MB S-1155
MEM: CORSAIR 16GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I5/I7 PC10666 1333MHZ (4X4GB)
MB: ASUS MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3 Z68 S-1155 M-ATX

She got 9144 3dmarks11, I guess thats ok.

But, she got less FPS in borderlands with 680 than her gigabyte OC 580.
Also, she got lower fps in Fallout New vegas with 680 than with her gigabyte OC 580.
Although, in BF3 her fps skyrocketed.

This card is expensive, we can all agree to that.
Why can i only feel the power of this expensive card in BF3 and in Crysis 2?

All other listed games it falls behind even an old 460 sometimes.

*NOTE*
VSYNC is OFF in every test that i am doing. Since i have 120hz monitor i am not in need of vsync to remove tearing, cus there is none.

Serious Sam 3 runs like crap for me too. I haven't tried any of those titles personally but I have seen the low fps in a few others like GTA4.

I've had this issue happening with a lot of older games it seems like the GPU throttling nvidia put in place is having trouble with older games that don't use as much GPU power, it doesn't seem to scale properly. World of Warcraft for instance my GPU power usage will hover between 30-50% yet I still lag like crap in many areas. Same with GTAIV everything maxed out using only 50-60% of the GPU power but only maintaining 24-30FPS and this is with 'maximum performance' selected. BF3 ironically uses 98-100% of the GPU power but it runs brilliantly with little issue. This definitely didn't happen with the GTX580, I have a feeling some software/driver went haywire with the throttling. I did report the bug for World of Warcraft I was told it was a driver issue that was going to be looked at.

Ok so it seems like its a driver thing then?

But when i play Red faction armageddon i am at 70-90% gpu usage, but still have a very very bad fps.
at 30-70 when using dx11.

Definitely a driver thing from what I've seen.

Keep in mind that a CPU bottleneck that allowed 95% gpu usage in a particular game will limit it to closer to 50% on a more powerful GPU.

In the few 680 reviews i've seen with GTA4 i have not seen a decrease in performance with this title, but rather a lack of increase (since the title is CPU heavy when shadows are enabled and set to high)

The legitimate performance regressions i have seen thus far have been where the GPU does appear to be maxed out with the clocks at full speed. I have a theory on this posted at http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=229274&view=findpost&p=1409443

Yeah I think something's wrong. When I play bf3 I get only but 60 + fps on ultra, aa off but fxaa turned on at the control panel. In your case the cpu is obviously bottlenecking the card, I suggest you overclock it as far as it can go, but as for your gf's pc test I think it might be the drivers since the 3d mark score is ok. Batman AC is badly optimized and (sad to say this) you should avoid it. As for crysis 2 you can get benchmarks around 65fps average, but when you actually play the game it's mosre like 50fps average. Try the 301.10 drivers. Good luck
