Cannot update driver for GEForce 210 1GB card Win XP, Pro SP3, ASUS P5B-E motherboard 2GB RAM
  1 / 2
Bought an ASUS/Nvidia GEF 210 1GB video card a week ago and didn't pay attention to the driver version until now when I tried to update to the latest - version 296.10, (32bit) but the NVIDIA installer fails. Windows installer copies the files to their proper folders (DRIVER & System32), but it reports version 6.14.12.9610 of 2012.02.29. The NVIDIA website says it should be v296.10 WHQL and the release date of 2012.03.13

I tried the following (with rebooting between each step):

1. Checked the motherboard. It has no onboard video.
2. Uninstalled ASUS video accelerator & rebooted.
3. Uninstalled all video files with Driver Sweeper (successfully) and rebooted. This reset the driver to the Windows standard VGA.
4. Cleaned the registry of all references and rebooted.
5. Reinstalled ASUS video accelerator & rebooted. Without this, it wouldn't even recognize the video card.
6. Tried the NVIDIA installer and it failed again & again.
7. Since once it also reported that access is denied, I checked all security settings and being the only user and the Admin, there are no restrictions.
8. Safe boot install also fails.

What am I missing?

Again many thanks. Yes, that's the right card and finally got the chance and installed the recommended driver, (after several failed tries). It now shows up as version 6.14.12.6785, which is the correct one. I will use it for a few days and see if everything is OK. If not, I will be posting back here.

Hi. Here is the link below. Don't be discouraged in case it won't install immediately by Win XP. Tried several times, and I am not sure if it was installed manually by pointing the installer to the .dll files. I now remember that also used Driver Sweeper (a frees software) to clean for unused but installed video drivers. I hope this helps.

Sorry, I can't help you, as much as I would like to. You should keep searching. I use the rule that if I have the problem, there must also be others with the same problem.

Good luck.
