good upgrade?
I just upgraded my mobo and cpu, and well ram cause i was using ddr2. as well i just got a GTX 560

This is what i upgraded from

ECS
Model A740GM-M
AMD Phenom X4 9750
3 gigs of ddr 2 ram
8800 gt alpha dog edition
ULTRA 550w

this is what i upgraded to

ASUS M5A99X EVO AMD 990X Socket AM3+ Motherboard
AMD FX-6100 X6 3300MHZ 14MB 95W AM3+
Corsair High Perform Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz2x4
ULTRA LSP750 750W ATX POWER SUPPLY
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 SuperClocked 1GB

i kinda have second thoughts on the CPU i got, i was on a budget and i did read reviews but i tend to see more negative ones the more i look

just wondering what peoples thoughts on if this was a good budget setup?

thanks :)

That cpu will work just fine with a GTX560. I am still running a Phenon II 965 @3.4GHz and it is well matched to the capabilities of my Gigabyte GTX560TI, and only hits 80+% usage (not constantly)
in two games that I am aware of Fallout 3 (but not Fallout New Vegas) and GTA4, which is a notoriously poorly optimised game.
My most recent heavy use game Crysis 2 runs the cpu in the upper 50% low 60% range most of the time with occasional brief peaks in the low 70% range. I think Crysis is similar.
Just don't expect to run BF3 on Ultra for more than a few minutes without it crashing, when using a 560, as many try to do. A GTX580 or equivalent is the only way that's going to happen.

The main issue with the newer AMD cpu's is that everyone was expecting a leap forward instead of a move sideways in relation to gaming. They did actually improve with memory benchmarks significantly, but
this did not translate to gaming benchmarks. I'm not sure if it applies to the six core, but apparently the eight core are also disappointing in single core applications, which again should
not be an issue with games that are old enough to use only a single core as the 560 gpu will lay down some serious whoop-ass on them.
btw - the 4100 actually outperforms the 6100 by 1-2 fps in the game benchmarks I've seen.

Having said that, the favorite cpu currently for gaming is the Intel i5 2500k, mostly because it can be OC'd so easily, and on air to boot, but really only an advantage if you are running a 580,
or SLI 570's, I reckon. I have no doubt my Phenom II 965 would still keep up with a single 570 as well.
