NVIDIA Optimus issues Intel Integrated graphics not switching to NVIDIA gpu when needed
Hi everyone,

i'm having problems with the on-board Intel graphics processor not switching to NVIDIA gpu when needed.

I have a new MSI GE620DX which comes with GT555m 2GB on top of the Intel's IGP. The Optimus really saves battery but when i start to play high performance gpu demanding games like Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City, Intel's on-board graphics just won't switch to GT555m (playing plugged with or without battery) even if i force those games to select the GT555m via NVIDIA control panel (Manage 3D settings - Program Settings tab). Both games only runs at a pathetic 11 fps (based on Benchmark results).

I encountered a similar problem with NBA 2k12 but forcing it to select GT555m (via NVIDIA control panel again) did the trick and runs very smoothly at 80 fps.

I already installed the latest Bios (16G5_10P) and NVIDIA (296.10) updates but nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

i've read tons of threads regarding Optimus under nVidia forum and the not even one had a solution. it's just frustrating that you're gonna buy an expensive gaming laptop thinking it would really perform but ends up having problems.

i envy those who are on ATI.

I don't have your guys problem, but what is Nvidia Optimus supposed to do? Automatically detect gpu load and switch to the GT555m? Does the GT555m use it's own 2GB of VRAM? Or is it shared with system memory?
How much memory does your laptop have and are you on a 64-bit OS?

Optimus is supposed to automatically switch from IGP to GT555m when the game demands it.

i'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with 8gb ram that runs on Intel core-i5 2410. i'm not actually sure if my GT555m uses its own 2gb of VRAM or not (how do you check it by the way?).
