Graphics Cards Gone Bad? 2 cards not working properly
I have tried to install two different cards, 8800GT and a 7900GT, both with no avail. The 8800 worked for a bit, and then pooped out on me. For both, through the Nvidia control panel, I've received the following message: Nvidia display settings are not available, you are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU.
Also, checking my device manager, error code 43, which reads: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
The solution is probably something simple, but here is what I have tried in order to fix it:
1.)Cleaned out my registry.
2.)Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and display adapters
3.)Got a higher wattage power supply, which I thought would have surely done it, since I was running on a 250W supply and really needed something above 400W, now am at 500W and still nothing.
4.)Checked my BIOS version, HP had an update in October of 2010, didn't seem like that would have been the problem, tried to install that, and blue screened.
5.)Did a Memtest, just in case, all is running smoothly.

I am at a loss. I just don't see how after all of that, both cards would not work.
And just a side note, I don't know if this quite matters, but with the 8800 I can start up just fine, log into my username, and view my deskot just fine, but with the 7900 after logging in I'm getting a blue dotted screen. Anyhoo, here are my specs:

Is it possible that my PCI-Express slot is no good? If so, is there any way I can test that itself? I can't think of any other reasons as to why both cards are not working.

No, no new installation of Windows. I didn't try the cards in safe mode, I suppose that is what I will do. If they work in that mode, where do I go from there? And yes, the connectors are good. I appreciate your reply BigCee!
