Aero glass effect not working

Geforce GTX 560 296.10 drivers

What caused the problem: Thursday I had my hard drives replaced, and had to reinstall windows. I have basically the same problem as the OP in this thread

What I've done:- I ran the aero troubleshooter, came back with no issues.

Have you tried manually enabling it in the personalization settings?

I'm not even given the option, like in the thread I linked.

So when you go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Personalization, there is no set of Aero Themes to chose from?

There's aero themes, but it won't display the aero graphics.

And now look at this ****.

What is going on here? It was compatible on Wednesday, before I replaced my hard drives and had to reinstall windows.

By any chance when you reinstalled windows, did you end up installing a newer set of video drivers as well? And have you tried updating the drivers? If so, try finding out what driver set you currently have and then rolling back to an older driver set.

I have 296.10, the one previous to that is going to be the set that came with the card, which i think was something like 270.something or another. I imagine I need the one previous to 296.10.

Yes try the set before 296.10 and then report back. If this works, then it might just be because Nvidia's somewhat spotty driver support as of late.

won't do it. keeps crying that my card is crap and doesn't support directx 9. It's a 560, it supports 11. I've never had such a small problem drive me this insane before. There is literally zero conceivable reason on the face of the globe for this to be happening.

What driver version did you install?

EDIT: Also, you need to do a complete removal of the drivers before installing new ones. You can't just uninstall them from control panel and install the new ones as a clean install. You have to delete all folders relating to nVidia after uninstalling the driver. As well as run DriverSweeper in safe mode to make sure every bit of data on those drivers are gone.

Yeah I know man, nvidia hasn't been on their best driver game lately. And the 560 cards have been plagued with issues since they were released. Try using the set that came with your card if you still have the disc. The 290 driver set isn't exactly amazing.

I'm going to lose my mind over this. Did a clean install of 295.51, still not working.

Doesnt anybody who works at nvidia read these forums? I want to know why this is happening.

In the power management section of your nVidia control panel 3d settings, see if it already has "Prefer maximum performance" selected. If not, select it
