GTX 680 2x SLI Surround Trouble Games stutter when surround is enabled
  1 / 2
I have got 2 EVGA GTX 680's in SLI with Surround Enabled on 3 monitors.
Surround enables fine when setting it up with NVIDIA Control Panel and everything is fine, except when I play games.
When I go to play Battlefield 3 the game stutters and it is unplayable. It shows I'm getting 5fps or under, I can hardly click the options to change the resolution because its lagging so bad. But when I change the resolution back to 1 monitor it plays 100% normal!!
I tried Skyrim also and it does the same thing.
I have power connected to both cards, and the SLI bridge on the left connection.
I have 2 monitors connected via DVI on the top card, and the 3rd monitor via DVI on the bottom card. From what I've read this is Option 1 for connecting your monitors.

I have windows 7 x64bit and 301.10 Nvidia Drivers installed, when I got the 680's I uninstalled my previous drivers, ran driver sweeper, then installed 301.10 drivers

Before the GTX 680's I had two 580 Classifieds and they worked fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What size monitors are you using. It's just that I have 3 24" screens and can run BF3 at 6000x1200 on Ultra and get between 50-100 fps. I do turn off Blur and set AA to 2x though. Mine never drops into single digits.

3 24" monitors on 2 EVGA GTX 680's @ 5760x1080 and I'm staying right at or above 60 fps on Ultra online. I'm also using the FXAA Injector that I was using with my Sli 570's. Have not tried with out yet.

Have you tried one card at a time to see if maybe one is the problem? Compare each card with one monitor then all three to see if you see a big difference.

The monitors are all the same, and they are 23" Samsung 1920x1080 native resolution.
With surround enabled the resolution is 5760x1080, with the bezel adjusted it is 6000x1080.

I have tried each card separately (just running 1 card) and it runs fine, with 1 monitor enabled & with all 3 enabled. I have tried both cards this way, on there own each card runs fine.
It only has trouble when both cards are in and SLI is enabled.

Is this the same for any1 else? -> So I have 1 card installed and I shut it down to install the second card to get SLI, I reboot after the install of the second card, so now I'm in windows. I have to reinstall my Drivers because it does not recognize the second card, so I uninstall my drivers, reboot, run driver sweeper, reboot, then install the Nvidia drives. Now the second card comes up and says its enabled.

Is this normal for installing the second card that is the same make/model?

I have some time left from when I first ordered them, so I could replace them if it might be the cards

Could well be a motherboard issue if both cards are working fine separately. Have you checked your settings or maybe even tried updating to the latest bios

im having this exact same problem with an amd 1090t processor and a 890fx motherboard, having max 5 fps with sli on 3 monitors. I tried playing in 5700 resolutions, 7680x1600 resolution and 3000 triple monitor configurations and all have max 5 fps for some appearent reason. Could it be amd related? i used to have 3 gtx 580 and never had this problem.

I have the latest bios installed on the motherboard, and there aren't any special settings that I can see.

@tito018 I am about ready to rma my motherboard and get ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard and a Intel Core i7-3820. After I get these parts I will post a update, and let ya know if it fixes it or not.

It is interesting that 2 people both running AMD systems have had this issue. I can't say i have seen or read any Intel systems doing this. It may just need a bios update on those boards to fix the problem.

After the recent BF3 update, my two 580s in SLI took a performance hit in multiplayer. It was still better than the single card performance, but not as good as it was before the update. Granted, I'm only using a single monitor, but I think something with the BF3 update created some issue with SLI setups.

I contacted EA support on the issue and they said they were getting a lot of complaints from those with SLI setups. Their solution? Turn off SLI. I said this was really not a solution and he agreed to bring it to the programming team.

I've since swapped out my 580s for 680s. Single card performance is actually around 20fps BETTER than SLI performance in BF3 with the 680s(???).

I'm really hoping the appropriate communication is taking place to bring about a resolution to this situation.

I've been getting noticeably better performance since the recent BF3 patch. Something is definitely not working correctly with your system.

Yeah make that 3 now i've got two gtx 680's in sli and the frames are capped to 5 but i can get it work in windowed mode so in full screen is the issues for me. On another note 3d vision(just using one monitor) also brings the frame down. But playing in surround works with one card just fine and also in 3d vision.

Simular issue to mine http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=228211&st=0#entry1401065
I think it is a driver problem as the seem to work desent in windowed mode.

Yeah, that's my thread...

Nvidia got back to Tonacrid, and myself...they are trying to put together a comparable system to verify the problem. So, I suspect some future driver repair for AMD users...Hopefully

It is with SLI 3 monitor surround on AMD 890fx, 990FX, 990xa chipsets so far. With the various forums, and pm's to me, there are 11 users in the same boat at the moment that I know of.
I have been unable to find a forum with an AMD user succesfully running 680GTX SLI on 3 monitor surround, even though several of these same people upgraded from 580GTX SLI surround! Bizarre!

990FX chipsets : Asus Crosshair V x 2, Sabertooth x 6, 1 MSI GD80, 1 Gigabyte 990x chipset GA-990XA-UD3, and 1 890fx chipset.
Quad core, 6 core CPU's, doesn't matter.

HiVizman on Asus ROG forum put together a twin to my system and tried to find a fix for me/us, with no luck...Great effort, and an Amazing guy!

So, I am waiting for my z77 and 3770k kit to arrive to start building my new rig, But I will keep working on this AMD issue, and will update my various forum posts if/when we find a fix :)
