I believe it's because NVidia have different glasses timings tuned for each of the 3D monitors.
They use the EDID to identify the monitor and set the timing on the glasses from that, obviously with 2 different monitors there could be an issue.

You can't mix and match w/3D surround? That really really sucks if you can't. I was hoping to go 2x GD235HZ and 1x VG278H one of these days after kepler... Does anybody know the answer to this? Mixing and match 2D seems to work rather well, but not 3D???

Good Day

I know what it is now. The optimum solution is to buy me an Asus ENGTX580 I, but not the matrix. And producing an SLI connection. The problem is this: The Asus Mars 2 has only two outputs DVI-D and 1 HDMI and 1 Display Port. I hung a GN245HQ to HDMI 1.4 and I bought Nvidia 3DTV, but this was totally pointless purchase, because HDMI 1.4 does not support 1920x1080 @ 120Hz. Since a smooth playing with the Asus Nvidia 2D Souround Mars at high graphic game settings is not possible. I hope that it will work with 3 chip is Nvidia 580gtx. This is all Nvidia 580gtx chip charge a resolution of 1920x1080 @ 120Hz. My i7 3960x will then take over the Physx. So it should go Nvidia 3D Souround.

What does YOUR?

PS.: Please would someone buy me my report iff Asus ENGTX480.

3D requires all displays be the same make and model as noted here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-surround-system-requirements.html

2D surround requires: "All displays must have a common resolution, refresh rate, and sync polarity"

Sync polarity is the factor that is the hardest to pin point as most manufacturers do not often call this out, but if the polarities are different the maximum resolution will be slightly lower to account for this during our "rigorous display timing" check

Will that ever change? Mix and matching 3D monitors would be a great feature to add in the future.

I am unaware of any plans to change this in the near future, but I would assume this will stay this way for some time just for compatibility and display issues that would result if it allowed for monitor mixing.

I have been trying very hard to find an answer for my question and I think you almost answered it.

I currently have 3 x VE258Q running 2D NV Surround. These are 60hz ASUS TN/LED backlit screens.

I would like to replace my center 25" screen with a VG278H.

Now I know I can't run it at 120hz in surround with 60hz screens, but do you think I should be able to run it at 60hz in surround and then at 120hz for 3D / single screen gaming?

Sync polarity is incredibly hard to determine and I don't want to buy a $700 monitor on a guess.

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell if this will work or not, The only thing I could do on my end would be to check with my Asus 2D surround monitors and the Asus 27" 3D monitor I have here at the office to see if that works, but even then we do not have identical 2D monitors
