GTX 560 runs in PCIe 1.1 on 2.0 supported motherboard
I have a gigabyte x38 ds4, that has 2 2.0 pcie x16 ports, whenevr i plug my new gtx 560 into either one, it reports it as 1.1 only.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2736#sp

Any ideas? i suspect this is what's causing it to run only at 8% GPU usage in most games

or is there some trick to enable 2.0? when i run the internal test in gpu-z it doesnt change from 1.1

If you take a gander at this huge thread, you'll see that you are not the only one with this problem. This bug is specific to Nvidia's PCIe 2.0 GPU's when running on x38 motherboards.

My advice would be to just ignore it. You won't see any performance hit when gaming. A 16 lane PCIe 1.0/1.1 slot will not bottleneck a GTX 560 (or a GTX 580 for that matter).

the problem is that in the games i play, my gpu runs at 8% load regardless of game graphics or resolutions, and never goes above 30%

i play heroes of newerth mainly. i get worse performance than my 8800 ultra on 101 series driver (10-15 fps less).

Sounds like your GPU is not changing over to its 3D clocks when gaming. Have you tried setting the "Power Management Mode" to "Prefer Maximum Performance" in the NV control panel (under 3D settings)?

yep it's set to maximum. i've already tried about a dozen 200 series drivers. can't go lower than 275.33, because gtx560 does not support it

apprently 265.90 fixed the low gpu usage for some guy, but i do not know how to mod my inf to support my card.

my gtx 560 does not support that driver....

hardware id is PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1201&SUBSYS_080110B0&REV_A1, ive tried modding the inf....no go

I have a gigabyte x38 ds4, that has 2 2.0 pcie x16 ports, whenevr i plug my new gtx 560 into either one, it reports it as 1.1 only.

Any ideas? i suspect this is what's causing it to run only at 8% GPU usage in most games

or is there some trick to enable 2.0? when i run the internal test in gpu-z it doesnt change from 1.1
Recommended:
256MB Geforce 7800+ or Radeon X1900+

your GTX 560 is overkill for Heroes of Newerth.
upgrade (or overclock) your cpu,ram,motherboard,... if you want more fps and more gpu usage.
