Old Republic - Crash on startup Old republic crashes during full screen splash screen startup
Hi,

I've seen various issues being reported for old republic crashes, but all those being reported were already in the game.

I have two PC's.

1. One is an i920, 6GB corsair dominator GT, Gainward GTX580 "Phantom" 3GB.
2. The other is a i7 2700K, 12GB Corsair Vengeance, Gainward GTX580 "Phantom" 3GB.

Both run at stock speeds and both crash on start of old republic. Both were installed using the retail disc, both run Windows7 64 bit. I doubt this is a co-incidence, so there must be something wrong with the common element, being the graphics card. I've tried the latest stable driver release 285.62 and one revision back. I also attempted to use the latest BETA driver 290.53. Still no luck.

I would be happy to prove additional information, please let me know. (Crash log data shown below)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Ty

Hi

I have the same issue. Crashes as soon as I hit play. The monitor reports 'invalid format' as in the monitor goes off as if it's receiving no signal from the PC. Have updated graphios drivers, changed monitors. Fine on my other PC with beefier card tho...
Hope there's a fix soon

Similar error message as me on first run of the launcher after a clean install from the DVDs; made it through the first opening videos and then crashed back to desktop. Did you install with the DVDs? It resolved for me after running the fixlauncher.exe tool but this hasn't worked for everyone. Another possible solution that worked for some was to download the client online using the 'Download Now' option from your SWTOR account page. But again, this didn't work for everyone either...

I had zero issues with the Nov 25 weekend beta launcher which I patched to the retail upon release but just recently I purchased an SSD so I did a clean install from the DVDs.

From what I've gathered on SWTOR's forums many other people are having similar issues with the launcher. So you aren't alone. It also sucks that you can't search their forums any longer... ugh!

My system specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate
i7 950 @ 3.9GHz
6GB Memory
Intel SSD 320 120GB
Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD - BTW I'm having all kinds of sound issues in SWTOR... randomly cuts in and out... muffled... hard to explain.. comes and goes!

Thanks for your reply. I have no tried to install the Origin based client on one of the PC's. That PC is now working. My other i7 920 based PC is still crashing on startup with DVD retail. I am copying over the origin installer and will see if this client runs from a straight "copy into same folder". This will sort of tell us whether there is a difference in the client itself between the DVD client and the origin client... perhaps?

Will post back soon.

Ok, so, it seems that downloading the client works. I copied the folder from the working PC onto the other PC and voila! If you are having issues with the retail DVD then download the client and use that.

Thanks for those who posted their info, hope this works for you too!
