BattleField 3 GTX580 LAG Why do i get lag on ultra when fps are high ??
  1 / 2
Hi,

If I try to play BattleField 3 all on ULRA and maxed out, the game lags. But if I use the Render.DrawFps 1 command in battlefield to show up the fps.
I never get under 35 to 40 FPS sometimes maxing at 75 even. But theres always a constant lag especially when doing quick turns.
It'S as if I can see vertical across screen lines when i turn a full 180 in-game.
I got the lates Nvidia Drivers:

Here are my specs:
GTX 580
Direct X 11
quad i7 950 @ 3.07 GHZ
Win7 64
6.00 Gb of some good ram
1TB of some faster then 7200 rpm HardDrive.

Pc is clean and not full of junk or spyware or whatever sloing it down..All other games I own wirk flawlessly at ultra even Skyrim or crysis2

Thanks in advance

Of course lowering the settings works, but that's not the point.

The point is that the game runs at 35 fps and plus, so it shouldn't lag,
the human eye doesn't see lag after 30 fps (the real value is even lower than that).

What I noticed that made the most difference was when I change the ambient occlusion to the other type, the problem is gone.

Remember even on ultra, i get higher than 35 fps and it lags.

Thank you.

Hi There I'm having the same issue that your having except I have a GTX 560ti with a up to date driver . I have only had this problem since the update, hope someone can help us
as its the most annoying glitch ever. Im currently re-installing BF3 to see if that does anything.

I don't know maybe, the ambient occlusion isn't perfectly compatible with the nvidia drivers thus running well but loosing some info about each frame. ???

Firstly, that is a complete scientific fallacy that the eye cannot percieve anything faster than 24 frames per second.

And you yourself have proven this by experiencing lag when the frames drop below 60 (refresh rate)

Try lowering your deffered anti aliasing to 2x and leave everything else ultra and tell me how that goes.

Maybe you are experiencing the same type of problem I had here. I don't know why, but Windows log service was generating a lot of disk I/O, and when this happened my system dropped frames and seemed very slow at certain points (I noticed you said you are not having low frame rates, but anyway it looks like you have something "eating" your frames before they are shown on the screen).

Did you noticed disk activity when the lag occurs? If yes, try running Windows Resource Monitor and find wich proccess are causing the lag because of excessive disk I/O.

Also, the Resource Monitor is an excelent tool for tracking the kind of problem you have. You mentioned you have 6GB of RAM, but how much of those 6GB is free?

Try running Game Booster, JetBoost or another utility of the same kind and stop any unnecessary service before starting BF3 (3rd party disk defrag, antivirus, etc.).

Are you system overclocked (gfx and/or cpu)? If yes, please tell me about your overclock (FSB, multiplier, memory latency, and anything else you may have changed). Also try to disable any overclock you made. And what's your motherboard model and make?

And last, the kind of problem you reported can also be related with your graphics card framebuffer output. The frames are rendered within the expected limit (that's why you see a good framerate when you use Render.DrawFps 1) but yet have lagging while playing. How your monitor is connected to your gfx card?

Finishing, I have not played Skyrim but I can tell you that Crysis 2 should not be compared with BF3 because it demands way less resources.

Sorry about my english, I haven't practiced it for a long time.

Of course human eye can see lag over 30 fps.

You should lower your settings.

You might be hitting your vram limit unless its a 3gig 580.

I had roughly the same problem and i solved it by removing my wireless mouse and using a wired usb mouse instead, no lag at all on bf3 now /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

Turn VSync on, turn shadows down to High, leave everything else as is. Also, lag spikes when turning are just that, lag, as in from Ping, nothing you can do about it.

I'm running 1 570 and can play on Ultra without my FPS dropping below 40. I also don't experience this "stutter" or lag. But what the OP is describing is probably the Motion blur in the game or vertical sync is off. If you do a quick turn with motion blur on, obviously the game will blur. I don't play with motion blur on and I put vsync on via the NVCC.

Also comparing other games to other games is pointless. All games don't use the same engine, thus every game will perform differently. OP should be running the game fine.
