SKYRIM WON'T LAUNCH
I played this game with no problem for the past 10 days and now I can't get the game to launch!

Here is a clip of my desktop I took with the snippet tool. Look at the bottom left of the screen and see how the game icon on the desktop bar is just a white box instead of the Skyrim logo.

What could be the problem?

Can I reinstall this game and keep my save files? I certainly hope 10 days worth of play won't be lost.

I also had severe problems with the game where it crashed to desktop every 10 minutes with no error message.

An infinite number of Monkeys, using an infinite number of typewriters, given an infinite amount of time, will eventually print up Shakespeare's entire works.

I had this same exact problem. You must also be running the Steam version. What I did was delete all the downloaded game files from within Steam. After this, I re-ran the install for it. It launched with no issue after I did this.

Your saved games will not be lost after you do this.

I don't have any downloaded game files for steam. I have the retail version of Skyrim I bought from best-buy for $60.

For Windows 7, your save data is located under My Documents\My Games\Skyrim. If you reinstall, your save data should remain intact. You can make backup copy of it just in case.

Good luck.

This issue causing Skyrim to no longer start was caused by a just released patch that added DRM.

You can read about it here: http://www.gamefront.com/bethesda-pushes-through-skyrim-pc-patch-makes-things-worse/

There is also a link for a user created mod that allows Skyrim to use 4GB of memory. This patch currently limits the game to 2GB.
