Battlefield 3 3DVision Benchmarks
  1 / 43
I just gave in and pre-ordered BF3 on Origin. I haven't bother to try out the beta yet, just going to wait until retail. However, I'm wondering if anyone has ran it in 3D and can tell me what the performance impact of 3D is, or if someones found benchmarks for it elsewhere.

I saw regular 2D benchmarks that pretty much told me that my GTX570 is going to be able to get 30+ FPS @ 1080p with 2x AA and everything else max. I'm just hoping 3DVision doesnt cut that down to 15fps or so.

The beta is not very reliable for that, i think they didnt let you pick the ultra gfx options, anyway what i tested it was playable, however i see it more for the single part of the game than the multiplayer.

I am not counting on 3D to be fully functional come release day. Sadly, I am prepared that my Sli gtx480's probably will not cut the mustard, and I will have to scale the options back... /crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':'(' />

On the good side though, it will be like old days, you know, like how game engines were tougher than the latest and greatest gear. You could return a few years later and replay the game with your new rig and maxing out the settings /happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

lol yeha i remember specifically upgrading both CPU and GPU to experience BF2 at max. Me and my friend used to play it on LAN and we'd make there be like 50vs50 teams with bots. brought my AMD athlon to its knees lol

but that sucks, didn't they say that it supports 3Dvision? i could have sworn i read that its even 3Dvision ready and all that.

Today I learned from another forum that NV is going to release a new driver on Monday the 24th one day before BF3 goes LIVE.
There you can see the intent from NV is to make sure users like us will have the good driver ready for battle one day ahead.
Will it be perfect? I think not but there is no such thing is a perfect driver and there will never be one.

DICE mentioned 3d for amd and nvidia gpu's for bf3 but nvidia only state on their geforce game site that bf3 is dx11 and sli, not officially stated by nvidia yet as 3D Vision Ready for bf3.

I noticed that but it still does not really make it official, that's probably a typo and nvidia are not allways clear in what they mean to say, imho. Batman Arkham city is approx a month away for pc and yet nvidia have loads of info for 3d for this game and they claim it is 3d vision ready, and the screenshots and general info says this is correct, so all good, but battlefield has very little info from nvidia. If you go to their main geforce site, under 3d vision bf3 is not stated as 3d vision ready. My guess it will at some point down later down the road have 3d working, like crysis2 did.

I could be wrong but it's a bit odd that there is not a lot of information with regards to 3d vision. Although i will probably play the game without 3d at first and mess around with the 3d now and again. I was not that impressed with bad company 2 3d to be honest.

I also question whether BF3 will be 3D Vision Ready on Day 1, unless the functionality is included in the Day 1 patch itself. GeForce Lan 6 was only ~1 week ago, with Nvidia 3D Vision 2 launch being featured so prominently you would think BF3 would've been featured in 3DV or 3DV Surround, but I could not find a single mention of BF3 in 3D Vision. I did not watch every single Youtube vid however from GFL6.

BF3 open beta had 3D stereo toggle in options, but it didn't do anything. The build they had at GFL6 was later than the open beta, probably the gold version of BF3 without Day 1/back-end fixes to address open beta issues. I'm not sure if DICE will have 3D Vision ready in time, if they did I also agree with IC3D that Nvidia would've made a bigger deal about it on their many blogs/sites or at GFL6.

Even if 3D Vision works with BF3, I'm not sure I'd even play in 3D...definitely not in MP anyways. BFBC2 had trouble maintaining 60FPS per eye on my 480 SLI rig often dipping into the 30-40 FPS range. BF3 is probably 30-40% more demanding. In Metro outdoors or Caspian, I regularly dropped to 60-70FPS and even had some settings like AO and shadows turned down or off.

I hate to say this... but I kinda wish they'd implement a cheap 3D effect like Crysis2... it'd be nice to have it as an option at least. Have a little bit of a sense of depth without murdering your framerate.

And yeah, the fact that Nvidia isn't going around proclaiming it to be a 3Dready or compatible title everywhere makes me have my doubts too... oh well... looks like my 3D glasses will get a break for quite a while cause i'm sure i'll be playing this game a ton for months...

Well, I have the final release and I tried to enable 3d vision to no avail even though the Nvidia control panel says "3D Vision Ready"

Yea, 3D doesn't seem to work at all. Nothing (ctrl+t, alt-tabbing and enabling 3D Vision and alt-tabbing back, etc) seems to activate 3D and also there's no 3D option in the menu. I thought this was supposed to be a 3d Vision ready title? What happened? Again one can only hope that there'll be a patch soon. Getting really tired of us 3D Vision users getting the short end of the stick with most of the major titles lately (and for some reason most of the smaller titles seem to support 3D out of the box).
