Sub-Zero Overclocking & Benchmarking D.I.C.E. / LN2
  1 / 6
As I promised Guys and Gals, Sub- Zero /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Lets get started /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> First you'll need the right equipment, a DICE/ LN2 Pot. There are a few available, I chose Koolance's CPU-LN2-V2. Here's my Sub-Zero Kit /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

Preparing the Motherboard, you will need Kneaded rubber eraser, shop towels and Insulation. I use Armaflex insulation, great stuff. /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Warm up the eraser in the micro oven for about a min. easy to apply /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I also prepare the DICE pot, the first thing I do is install the temp probe, using some Arctic Silver "Ceramique" on the temp probe and insert it into the hole at the base of the pot. Next I secure it with painters tape, painters tape also keep my pot looking new.

Now the pot is ready to mount! I'll be using Dry Ice Pellets and Acetone (99 cents/lbs) I have 10lbs, lets get started /clap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Looking good

More to come /spaz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':spaz:' /> Overclock'en and Rock'en TJ

Another note when using DICE /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I use a wooden spoon to stir the dry ice-acetone slushy mixture. No problems with freezing at the bottom, it remained a clear liquid with small pellets of dry ice /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

LOL, What loop? No loop on DICE only Dry Ice and Acetone /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Cold draws a lot of moisture, insulation on a water loop, to catch any moisture that might form due to condensation? Ask Hooks, He'll know /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I am sure you are learning quite a bit. Looks good TJ, and I'm loving the makeshift torture table. I have tried, and failed using LN2(ended up shattering PCB)...I stay my arse on the water-cooling side of the fence, and from my understanding dry ice is quite similar in nature. Good luck in your endeavors, and I will be popping my head in from time to time to see if you end up a snowman. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So we must hand it over to our tame PC tweaker. Some say he sticky tapes a block of uranium to his dinner before eating it and that he sucks moisture out of ducks. All we know is, he's called Hooks.

I suspect that Acetone is used due to its ability to evaporate so quickly at lower temperatures?

You have done your homework sir. Question: Where do you have your censor placed for the readings?

EDIT: @pancakepaddle: You have to understand vapor expansion before you isolate. The purpose behind this is direct contact cooling, it is a temporary process(often for benchmark runs). Closest you will get to something similar with a self contained system is phase change units.

Thanks Cravinmild, I'm having a Blast /w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' /> Man this E8500 is fast /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> Validationhere

Thanks Hooks, LOL my Sunbeam Benching Station works great /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> Yeah, LN2 is a whole different ballpark, it gets cold quick not like DICE /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It take a few min's to drop to -66c and then off to the Race /spaz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':spaz:' />

Hooks, It's basic hydro thermal dynamics, the only substance known to mankind exclusively to be able to maintain three states, ice, vapor and liquid.

This is what to look out for....

Haha, awesome, TJ! /clap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> To tell you the truth I always thought you'd try out some extreme overclocking the minute I first opened your 'Megatron' thread /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Probably should start calling you Mr.Freeze from now on /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

EDIT: Bottleneck at 5GHz?! And a severe one?! Geez, good thing I decided to wait for i3's to surface before building my rig.

Thanks Earl, I'm having a Blast! I've been to sick to work for a few days and can't stand to be in bed while I'm awake so I thought I would make the best of it. /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Yeah, good thing you waited, your i3 Dually Rocks, it was new tech at the time /w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' /> Take a look at this, now I know why the E8500 would not boot into 5.7GHz. Just like mounting a Heatsink you have to have excellent contact with the CPU's IHS, the K V2 has a large base so mounting has to be perfect to have a top run. I hope you guys are enjoying this as much as I am /spaz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':spaz:' /> Yeah!
