Have you tried the latest drivers?

Please send me a PM if I fail to keep up on replying in any specific thread or leave a driver feedback: Driver Feedback

I have the same problem as well. I bought the asus n73s with the GT 540M and it has the intel HD 3000 graphics with optimus.

Steam games and multiple other stand alone games will crash because it switched back to the intel HD 3000. The games just get the "not responding tag" then or I get the message "your drivers are outdated" and the game will close. I have also installed the latest intel HD drivers and after that the nvidia drivers (tried 270.61 and beta 275.27) and it still gives me crashes. I also tried the setting everything to default again, or "manage 3d settings" and set it on nvidia graphical for every program. Still it crashes.

I can't return my laptop to the store, because a driver problem is not their problem. So please fix it asap or make it so that you can disable the intel HD 3000 from kicking in, this problem is driving my nuts and I'm really mad that I wasted more then 1200 euros on this.

Use 275.33 instead of 270.61
Use 275.33 instead of 270.61

this is still a problem with the most updated drivers for all components involved, i have the same notebook as OP, gt540M card and with latest drivers as of 6/29/11 i still have the issues aforementioned in this thread. The next drivers better let me basically (virtually)remove the intel GPU from the system, which is what i thought happened when you select the Nvidia GPU as default. Ive been a huge nvidia fanboy since i got my first card from them, so fix this quick so i can shut my amd-ati friends up.
