NVIDIA Update 270.61 install failed
  1 / 4
I tried upgrading from 266.58 to 270.61 WHQL today. The driver and Physx appear to have installed properly, but I get a INSTALL FAILED at the end, and NVIDIA Update and its components did not install. I did not install 3D Vision on purpose.

This happened several times. The first time I tried an overinstall.

The second time I removed all NVIDIA drivers/etc. using Programs and Features, rebooted, W7 installed WDDM1 drivers, and then I tried again to install 270.61 with same result. I then ran the installer again and tried to install just the driver (required) and Update, but the Update install failed.

Third time I again removed everything, rebooted twice, W7 installed 267.24 from Windows Update (???- that's a beta driver, right), and installed 270 again, this time without Update. The installer completed with no problems.

How do I get NVIDIA Update to install, and why is this problem occurring? I will wait until I get some feedback before I try and install Update again.

Thank you...

I wonder what is going on. I would have thought they would have worked out such issues with 270.51. At least my WEI went from 7.5 up to 7.7 (although it was 7.8 in earlier drivers). I know WEI is total crap, but.....

I should note that I have EVGA Precision 2.0.2 and Symantec Endpoint Protection installed. Disabling SEP during install didn't help.

Yeah i updated from the 270 beta driver to this and get the same problem, and now all my games setting are different and they crash within 10 seconds within the start of gameplay. How do i downgrade to the previous driver lol.

There are a couple of different reports in this thread, one for the display driver + Physx and one for the NVIDIA Update. Which one are you seeing?

Why do people use the update that comes with the drviers, is this something nvidia put in to there drivers to help to install the new and take out the old drivers ???. Just uncheck it and do the install manualy. I have no problems here with sli or any other feature with the drivers......CHEERS

Having the same issue, NVIDIA update fails, and Physx failed also. Driver installed fined, even tho i encountered an error that said something about "stereo" something. Had no issues with the last driver, but this one is annoying me.

Oh forgot, this is on Windows 6 x64, with a MSI GTX 460 HAWK.

Manuel,

This thread is addressing only the installation failure of NVIDIA Update. No posts here mention a problem with the display driver which installed fine for me (and for all others in this thread, I believe). One user reported a problem with Physx installation, but that problem has been solved.

My Physx failure has gone away, removed the old Physx, and then tried reinstalling the new 270.61 update. Still fails at the installing Nvidia Update application though.
