GTX 580 Overclocking Thread Oh what a dangerous life we live!
  1 / 15
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, START... YOUR... ENGINES!

Let's do this.

NVidia's GTX 580 is a monster by itself, capable of running things 2xx-series users can only dream about, and they're highly overclockable thanks to a new and improved thermal redesign among other things.

Rumor has it, 850Mhz Core is about a "typical" overclock for these babies... let's see what everyone's got!

So far, I've only ran it OCed once for Vantage, though my model is stock-overclocked by eVGA from the reference speeds to a nice 797MHz core, 4050MHz vRAM. The result was ~400 point increase on Vantage, which, considering I only OCed it to 825MHz core, 4100MHz vRAM, not bad at all right?

GTX 580 Black Ops Edition @ 825/1650/2050 - 3DMark06: 21391

Think I'll go ahead and give 850 a whirl with the vRAM at 2100, see if it runs Vantage okay... really wanna break my own record.

Very nice numbers. The GTX 580 comes close to beating my GTX 470s in SLI. I only get about 10 more framerates than you in Crysis at 1920x1980, VH, 16xAA and that's with my overclocks. I am thinking about getting one, but I just went SLI and I am still in love with these cards.

Well keep in mind, you're also running an i7, so your numbers would serve mine up on a platter if you had 580s. Even so, 470s are great cards as well. I'd hold off if I were you and at least see what the Dual-GPU 5xx-series card performs like... I plan on waiting to see the numbers on that puppy before I decide between SLi-ed 580s or saving up for a dual-GPU card.

Either way I'm gonna prioritize savin' up for an i7-6-core next, I really wanna get the full potential outta whatever card I end up with, and the C2Q architecture, while still great, is holdin' me back quite a bit, looking at numbers on an i7 vs. my own.

I have to say seeing DX11 used properly like in Heaven is really stunning... ran a full on "ridiculous settings" run of it:

I'm wondering how much better SLi would perform... where's Battle when I need him! lol

and 06

Only a 1.5fps increase between a C2Q and i7 on Heaven eh? Slightly disappointing, but at those settings I have a feeling it's the GPU being brought ot it's knees regardless of CPU.

Have you run Heaven on the default settings at all like my 60fps run?

Nearly breakin' P30k on Vantage is awesome though /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Heres the 'standard' run in heaven also:

Seems that C2Q isn't a bottlenecking issue at all with a single 580.
Not much of one anyway, 4FPS diffy. Very nice with the 30k. I'm gonna shoot for my record this morning when I get home, OC to my wild 4.2GHz settings and pop off a Vantage run at 825/4100.

My card won't do 850MHz core even though most people's do apparently, I tried it on Vantage and Vantage crashed to desktop :(
