Windows 7 32bit and Vista 32bit nVidia drivers Use 260.99 release on your system
Many of you do have nVidia 8600M GS cards in your notebooks, and there wasnt anything new after "179.48_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_beta.exe" which are beta and dated 2009.02.11. If you download 260.99 driver you will get msg about "cannot find compatible graphics hardware". So here is solution which worked for me today when I installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit on my dv9500 hp notebook.

Download the driver for windows 7 32bit, go to http://www.nvidia.de/Download/index.aspx?lang=en Select: GeForce, then GeForce 8 Series, then GeForce 8600 GS and Windows 7 32bit as operating system and your language of choise. Hit Search and you will get driver 260.99 dated 2010.10.25. Run the installer to get files extracted to C:\NVIDIA\ directory and wailt until you get error msg that the installer "cannot find compatible graphics hardware". When you get that hit ok to exit installation.

Navigate with Windows Explorer to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDrivers\260.99\Vista\English\Display.Driver <- this maybe also any futur driver version 2XX.XX, and as well as International insteed English in my case.

Find file named NV_DISP.INF and double click on it to edit that file.

In section [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.0] insert under DEV_0424 line, the DEV_ID of your card in our case 0425 to looks like:
[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.0]
%NVIDIA_DEV.0191.01% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0191
.
.
%NVIDIA_DEV.0424.01% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0424
%NVIDIA_DEV.0425.01% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425
%NVIDIA_DEV.042C.01% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_042C
.

Then in section [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.1] insert same 0425 DEV_ID under DEV_0424 line, to look like:
[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.1]
%NVIDIA_DEV.0191.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0191
.
.
%NVIDIA_DEV.0424.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0424
%NVIDIA_DEV.0425.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425
%NVIDIA_DEV.042C.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_042C
.

And under section [Strings] under line: NVIDIA_DEV.0424.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS " this:
NVIDIA_DEV.0425.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS"

Save the file and navigate back to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDrivers\260.99\Vista\English\

Start a Setup.exe application and follow instruction, note it should pass the check where driver try to find the hardware.

You will get the msg that the driver isnt signed and you should select "Continue anyway"..

Finish the installation and restart the computer.
Or for lazy ppl, just grub the file from attachment in this post and remove .txt extension from file to get only file name NV_DISP.INF and copy/paste it to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDrivers\260.99\Vista\English\Display.Driver directory and overwrite the old one
Enjoy the in lates NVIDIA driver.

Windows 7 32bit Expirience Index get nVidia 8600M GS noted (in my case) as:
Graphics: Desktop Performance for Desktop Areo: 4,9
Gaming Graphics: 3D bussiniess and gaming graphics performance: 4,6

Have a nice day, and thanks for other poster here from which i colected information and did found a way to install newest driver dated in time of this post..

Will this process work with other NVIDIA models (e.g., GeForce 7150M nForce 630M)? If so, what needs to be changed? Thanks.
