I got that error too, or a very similar-looking one. After some forum wading, I found out there was something named "windows installer cleanup utility", and that fixed it for me. Or, at least, it fixed the install being able to finish install the PhysX driver.. I didn't get it to work (yet?), so maybe there still is some remnants left.
I downloaded it here: windows installer cleanup utility 7.2 (but it seems there are lots of other places/versions to download from).
Download, install the installer-cleanup-utility, run and remove the entry for the old PhysX driver. Then install the new driver.
It should work for all windows versions.

I downloaded it here: windows installer cleanup utility 7.2 (but it seems there are lots of other places/versions to download from).
Download, install the installer-cleanup-utility, run and remove the entry for the old PhysX driver. Then install the new driver.
It should work for all windows versions.
