Why isnt Surround an option for 2 monitors?
  1 / 2
Title says it all.. I can surely understand why 2 video cards are required for 3 monitor spanning, but what about if someone just wanted to span across 2 for now?
I have a GTX-275, and 2 22" acer 2d monitors. I am obviously able to drive both monitors.. if the drivers allow spanning across 3 ports on 2 cards, why won't it enable spanning across the same 2 ports on the first card?

If we could do this, I'm sure many many people would be quite happy, and it would most likely make them want to do more of the same..

Eyefinity can span 2 DVI monitors with one card, this should be an option for Nvidia customers as well!

Two monitors suck, the bezels are right smack in the middle of where you need to be looking.

They still should have included dual display support for projectors, though. I can agree with you there.

I agree that it is less than optimal, and 3 monitors is ideal, but there are several situations where having 2 monitors, even with bezels, is still better than one.
I play Eve online, and that is one example. That game really needs the screen real estate..

Do a search. We've been over this. 2 screens won't be supported. Sadly.

Technically, it is an option with nVidia cards -- but you'll need to buy a Matrox DH2G to pull it off.

You can disable Surround and instead use SoftTH 2.0, it has an option to dual monitor properly...

hmm.. this might be tempting..
does SoftTH have to be configured independently for each game, or is it somewhat universal?

Try out the 2.01 version... http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?board=1.0

It is quirky and has a learning curve but is free...

Or just get a third monitor, works best for gaming.

I do not know why two display surround is not supported however I have been told there are presently no plans to add support for this.

this seems pretty short-sighted to me, but what do I know.

You can file a "bug" here:
http://nvidia-submit.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...ser/std_alp.php

Its a new bug submission tool. It also has a voting feature. The more votes that a bug gets, the higher priority a bug receives. Might help the software team to reconsider offering support for dual monitor spanning.
