GTX 480 and maya 2010/2011

I recently put together a new machine and got a GTX 480. I am having some serious problems when I turn moderately complicated scenes to smooth mesh preview , the view port lags like crazy when I do. The computers at school can handle it just fine and the hardware is much older. Is this a driver issue or am I doing something wrong ? Anyone else experience this ?

Got this in hopes of some good CUDA enhanced renderers coming out soon.

Same problems for me in 3ds max 2011. The card is useless... Performance in the viewports really sucks and is close to none working at all, tried 4-5 different drivers, all same problem. My old 8800GTX did much better than this 480... Can't say that I am happy at all with this card... Good one Nvidia...
I hope it's a driver problem and that it will be fixed really soon... Else, get a ATI card, but it doesn't feel so good to have spended a lot of money on this card to find out it's not working in 3D apps and to be forced to get a new card for the same money...
I am really dissapointed at this card...

i have really bad viewport performance in blender with a 470GTX, more than 1mio polygones are impossible to handle due to the bad performance of the card. my old 9800GTX can handle about 10mio polygones with ease....

Generally you have to look for performance drivers for Autocad
but you don't have a quadros

now that is ridiculous to say the we dont have quadros and thats why i for example can not handle more than 1mio polygons with a 470GTX, yet my 2 generation old 9800GTX can do about 10x the polygons without problem...

be gone troll!

I agree kromar, my old 8800GTX performed much better than this GTX 480 card and that is way strange to me, should be the other way with ease...

Yes Xavier, I know about the performace drivers for quadro cards but they don't work with geforce cards. Before, you could softmod a geforce into a quadro and use the quadro drivers, but that is not possible anymore. And, you shouldn't need a quadro to work in a 3D application either, geforce card do very well due they use Direct3D. But like I said, the GTX 480 does not work good in 3D apps for some reasons, and I hope that Nvidia will change that SOON!!!!

By the way, is there any way to write a mail to Nvidia?

I dunno about being that harsh but..

I myself used to have a 8800 gtx and could handle 600,000 poly scene similar to this a o.k. Now I am getting seriously 3 second or worse viewport lag panning , zooming and rotating when smooth mesh is turned on. I hope the CUDA renderers soon make this thing worth it.

This is maya 2010/2011 im sure its different all over

*hopes for some driver lub in the near future*

what im saying...is until a performance driver is written for this line(series)...you will have to wait

I think someone has ported the Quadros drivers over to the 400 series
http://www.guru3d.com/news/geforce-forcewa...e-for-download/

I don't know how they will work... Your risk to try them
you can try them... or wait

PS: I wasn't trollin...Im really trying to help...but when little is available from NVidia on new drivers or on Autocad drivers...all I can do it tell you what is on the Nvidia pages

Yes there is
http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverqualityassurance.html

that is the only official channel I know of...

You can always PM a message to ManuelG in the forums and see if he responds as well

Why would anyone buy a Quadro FX card if game cards would do it for 1/5 of a price?
Nvidia wants to see you buying an Nvidia 2000 EUR professional card instead of an Nvidia 400 EUR gaming card.
Isn't it bizzare to buy a 400 EUR card and then ask Nvidia ( a corporation ) to fix the drivers so you could use it instead of a 2000 EUR card.
See the problem? Yes? No?
