Help with New GPU
Hey guys,

I need help to buy a new GPU, I am currently using a 8400GS and would like to upgrade to a higher GPU for 3D graphic design and better HD performance. I have a Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, Extreme series motherboard with 2 GPU slots, 2Gb's of ram and a 26" Sony Bravia V series HD ready LCD TV connected via HDMI. I am a budding graphic designer/Photographer. My new GPU should have enough power for running 3D software and Playing FULL HD videos. It should also have a HDMI port so i could connect it with my Bravia. The main reason for upgrade is watching better FULL HD videos.. So tell me which GPU would suit me and gimme the best HD experience for a moderate budget.

Budget - 6.5 to 7K.

6.5 - 7K what?

You'll have to tell us what currency that is as there's nothing in your profile to tell us where you live.

Also, some more detail about your system would be helpful. What speed is your CPU and RAM?

Well, if you get something that will handle the 3D work, you won't have to worry about it coping with HD video.

I don't know how prices in India compare to those in the UK but, for that money here, I'd go for something like a GTS250, which is the fastest of the G92 cards (basically, a rebadged 9800GTX+). The next card up is the GTX260, but it's 50% more expensive. If you go down, you're looking at the 9800GT, but these have fewer stream processors.

Check first, though - some of the older models of this card don't have HDMI ports. With these, you have to use a DVI to HDMI converter and connect the SPDIF output on the motherboard to the input on the card (using a pass-through cable supplied) to get the audio to work over the HDMI cable.

You may find some of your image work (especially video encoding) would benefit from running the CPU at higher speed and another 2GB of RAM could also be useful.
