Sound vanished nVIDIA HDMI @ nVIDIA GT215 - High Definition Audio Controller
Hi,

I'm having problems with the sound on my PC, which I recently have let build for me. The PC has got onboard sound.
Have connected a 5.1 speakerset from my old PC, which I think should normally work. However, in the Realtek Audio Utility I had to chose 7.1 to hear sound from the 5 boxes and subwoofer. Chosing 5.1 results in sound from 3 boxes only. Does anyone know why this is?
Have got a mutiboot configuration with W7 Pro and WXP pro SP3 and both OSses are having problems.
Not right from the beginning, but after updating the Realtek HD Audio driver from R2.48 to R2.49.

Here is what I did (this problem-description comes from testing in XP)

Audio CD (MP3): sound from Front left - Front right - Back left - Back right - Centre - Subwoofer
MIDI : sound from Front left - Front right - Centre - Subwoofers. no sound from BL and BR
--- Does anyone know why only 3 out of 5?
RMI : sound from Front left - Front right - Centre - Subwoofers. no sound from BL and BR
--- Does anyone know why only 3 out of 5?
WAV : sound from Front left - Front right - Back left - Back right - Centre - Subwoofer
WMA : sound from Front left - Front right - Back left - Back right - Centre - Subwoofer
Windowssounds work properly, I only didn´t check the boxes but since those sounds are WAV, I assume all 5 boxes worked.

Made an image backup
Installed Realtek HD Audio R2.49 and lost half of my sound (in W7 my sound has gone completely).
MIDI and RMI are played, but no sound whatsoever is being produced. WAV and WMA are played normally, using all 5 boxes.
Windowssound don't work anymore, totally silence.

Through Devices installation disabled and R2.48 re-installed. No sound from MIDI, RMI and Windowssounds.
Realtek HD Audio device removed totally and again re-installed R2.48: no sound except for WAV/WMA.

Restored the image backup made before starting this test: amazingly, no sound from MIDI/RMI/Windowssounds.
This I really don't understand, this image is from a system in which I had sound????

Tried several things:
-again removed the HD audio device totally and after rebooting let Windows search for a driver. After that installation again installed R2.48: no luck.
-K-Lite Codec Full 6.0.4 installed: no luck
-and I don't know what other things a tried, all without luck.

To be complete some hardware info:

Operating System : Type Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Operating System : Type Windows 7 Professional

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
Mobo Chipset : Intel Ibex Peak P55, Intel Lynnfield

Video card : NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 (1024 MB)
3D Acceleration : nVIDIA GeForce GT 240

Soundcard : nVIDIA HDMI @ nVIDIA GT215 - High Definition Audio Controller
Soundcard : Realtek ALC889 @ Intel Ibex Peak PCH - High Definition Audio Controller [B-2]

Sound Adapter Information
NVIDIA High Definition Audio NVIDIA
NVIDIA High Definition Audio NVIDIA
NVIDIA High Definition Audio NVIDIA
NVIDIA High Definition Audio NVIDIA
Realtek High Definition Audio Realtek

To me it seems strange to see 2 sound'cards', but maybe my nVidia Video card needs sound as well, I don't know.
Anyways, thinking this might be causing my problem I disabled all 4 nVidia HD audio devices: no luck.
Searched the net for "nVIDIA HDMI @ nVIDIA GT215 - High Definition Audio Controller", got two hits (in English that is) refering to a similar problem I'm suffering from. However, no solution was given.
Not having any sound at all in W7 I played WAV and WMA using the VLC-player. In this player I can see that the files are really played, but W7 produces No sound whatsoever.

I've got the following questions:
-where has my sound gone to
-why did I hear sound from 3 boxes only when playing MIDI (when I still had sound I mean)
-why did I not get back sound after restoring an image that was working properly.

I hope somebody has got a solution for me, and I don't mean things like "buy a soundcard and your problem is solved",
because that is NOT a solution but a workaround

What you need to do is disable your realtek HD in the divice manager cause is bad when you have 2 running at the same time.your best sound is the sound card.I would test to see if once you disable the NVidia HD it solved the problem then you know what it was.Mine is running at the same time with my sound card but not the realtek cause it always gave me issues having them running at the same time.
