Win 7 Sleep Mode PC fails to wake up from sleep mode after nVidia Upgrade
I have recently installed the nVidia upgrade on my Dell Dimension 9200, running Win 7 Pro (clean install). The upgrade was nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Display software update released in January, 2010 now running nVidia 2.8.290.13

The PC will now start running after a wake up from the mouse but the screen remains black.

Any ideas?

Mike

It sounds like you let Windows update install your new driver, which is never a good idea. Go to the Nvidia downloads page here and get the complete version of the driver or use the Beta and Archived Drivers link and get the latest beta version.

No luck, problem remains and the PC (still) lets out a high pitched whistle after a period of time when it appears unable to wake from sleep without having been asked, (drives running but screen black). Have taken it out of sleep mode till fix found.
