What is the most stable NVIDIA drivers currently?
I had numerous troubles with the latest NVIDIA drivers, many issues such as the dreaded black screen BSOD and so on, so I stuck with the good ol' 180.68 drivers. Well now I want to update my drivers to support the latest games, but I don't know which one to download that won't kill my system. Does anyone know the latest, stable drivers to download?

I've used every driver since i can remember and all of them work fine...

Its subjective to each person, one will work perfect and the next will fail.

The most stable driver is the 94.24 from may 2007, all that came after it is absolute crap.

if you are having issues with more than just the odd driver, namely "anything past XX.XXX" then that usually points to a hardware or setting problem with your pc. if your card is slightly unstable (be that an overclock of a fault) then older drivers tend to work but the new ones with new features and optimisations that work great on stable hardware, push your hardware over the edge.

you also could have problems with your RAM, or PSU.

OP - list your full system specs and we will see if anything jumps out at us.

I have the same problems on 2 completely different systems, so it must be the drivers.

sadly your logic is fatally flawed by the fact that millions of people run the exact same drivers as you and do not have issues. if it was the driver, everyone would have it.

i have ran almost every driver released since i got my gtx 280 and i have had no issues whatsoever...

I'm sure they have it, but they don't play the same games I play.

Anyone there to help me?
Anyone there to help me?

I was wondering the same for my GTX 280. I started having it crash while gaming so I downloaded the latest drivers a couple months ago. That didnt help, so I rolled back and still had issues. Talked to the techs at EVGA and they started an RMA. Got my first RMA card and I couldnt even get it to my desktop without it crashing ( only in safe mode). Tried everything under the sun to get it to work, then tried the card in another system. It crashed first time in. Second time got into BF2 for a couple of minutes then crashed ( seemed odd that we could even get it to work as he was running 100 watts under min power requirements). Got my second RMA card two days ago...hooray...got to the desktop...detected card , restarted. Got to the desktop again and tried Black Ops...worked for 20 mins, then crashed. Reboot and installed driver 190.38. Played for an hour with no issues. Next morning boot up, cant get to desktop without crashing. Start in safe mode, uninstall driver, reboot. Detect card...restart. No problems. Then repeat previous evening events. Crashes after 15 minutes or so, reinstall 190.38 play for a few hours no problems. Now this morning I cant get to desktop without being in safe mode no matter which driver I attempt to use. I have thrown in a GeForce GTS 250 as a back up while all this has been happening and it has had zero issues. Any suggestions?

I am not really sure what to suggest other than some very basic stuff.

1) Check your memory with memtest
2) Check system stability with LinX
3) Check for dust and clean dust filters in your case and if dusty inside. Keep on top of this every 4-6 weeks as dust can be a killer if left to fester.
4) If your BIOS has [Auto] For PCI-E Clock speed change this to 100 or 101.
5) Disable PCI-E Spread Spectrum in the BIOS
6) Ensure all onboard devices such as LAN etc and Onboard Audio have the latest drivers installed.

Whenever I perform a driver install I tend to restart in safe mode and run DriverSweeper you may wish to do this too.

Last but not least driver stability depends on what games you play and what hardware you have.

For example if you have a GTX 295 and wish to play Crysis, then 191.07WHQL is the most stable driver at the moment due to a bug in every Forceware from 195.62 onwards
However if you have a GTX 295 and wish to play GTA IV or EFLC then the latest 266.58WHQL is more than fine.

Sadly it is horses for courses at the moment, but nVidia are working on improving things, just with so many different cards out there and many different configurations I guess they are perhaps spreading themselves rather thinly.

As a rule of thumb G200 hardware users may wish to try 186.18WHQL first and then upgrade to the next forceware version and keep testing stability in their games until they find the first driver version which causes a problem. When you find that nasty driver report it to nVidia.

Thanks for all of the advice, I will give it a try. Worked great for a long time and now the wheels have fallen off. I will post how things go.
