Grand Theft Auto 4 Light Flicker Multi GPU Mode Street Lights and Other Light Flickers in Multi GPU
  1 / 22
Can someone do something about the Flickering of the lights in GTA IV, it happens in SLI mode, I don't want a cheap idea about how to work around it, if a developer would work on a driver that works for GTA IV in Multi GPU mode that would be great. Ok it actually seems to be the shadows that flicker for sure multi gpu mode, it would be nice to enable shadows with my 295 anyways with shadows off it is fine, which is cool.

Oh my god why has nobody replied to this? GTA IV is supported by SLI it is on the SLI support list at http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone2_game.html so the 295 should work perfect with it but ever since I have had GTA IV there has been the shadow flicker for example it happens definitely every time in his appartment, the first appartment it is there all the time unless at night not sure exactly but most of the time. If this is supported by SLI then why dosn't it work perfect, come on folks I can't figure it out by myself. I can't take a screen shot of it either because it's a flicker on off on off kind of difficult to do.

Just to be clear, does this problem only show up when you have SLI enabled?

This has been happening on my PC as well since I built it and got GTA-IV about a year ago.

I have Core i7 920 @ 3.6GHz, GTX-295 and Windows 7 64-bit. I have been updating the drivers as soon as new ones come along and they have all had the same issue. Right now I am using the 197.13 driver that fixed the fan speed issue.

If I enable Multi-GPU (I.E. SLI), I get this very bad flickering especially inside buildings, but also from some shadows outside.

If I disable Multi-GPU, there is no flicker, but of course my FPS drops by about 20%.

I have basically given up hope this will ever be fixed and just learned to live with, but maybe there is still hope. Rockstar will release the two episodes in about a month for PC's so I am sure there will be new interest in people to start playing GTA-IV again.

I have the same issue with my 2x 260 Core 216. Its all a new computer (first SLI), I was worried it was a hardware issue. It only happens in GTAIV, especially in the apt.

I have the exact same issue with my 3 X 280GTX Core i7 930 both in SLI and 3-way SLI modes under Windows 7. I get the flickering even at the main menu before launching the game! If I go ahead and launch the game, it flickers and stutters constantly to where it is unplayable (and blinding). After disabling all flavors of SLI, the flickering goes away and the game stops stuttering - plays perfect. I am running the GeForce/Ion driver release 196.21.

@ManuelG,

I have confirmed this exact same issue with Fallout 3 installed on the same rig I describe in my previous post. During the loading screens, there is a high intensity flickering for any bright spots. Once the game launches, all lighter shaded items (such as room or subway lights) in the game have a very fast flickering, just like GTA IV. However, the game play does not appear to stutter like GTA IV, but the flickering makes it impossible to watch. When I turn off all flavors of SLI, then the game plays perfectly.

I hope this helps,

Thanks!

Are these the only two games which gives you flickering with SLI enabled?

Hi guys

I have exactly the same problem with GTA IV and my GTX 295. When SLI is enabled I get terrible flickering. No issues in other games, only Grand Theft Auto IV. I have submitted this bug to nVidia several times. It has been present in every driver I have been able to run on my card.
The bug is still present in force ware 197.25 BETA

System:

Quad Core Extreme Edition QX9650
8GB of OCZ RAM @ 1333Mhz CL8
ASUS P5E3 with BIOS 1503
nVidia GTX 295 Single PCB

Enermax 720W Infiniti PSU
2X Intel X-25M in RAID0
WD Velociraptor

@ManuelG,

So far, these are the only two games I have found with this issue, but I am loading and checking many more over the next few days. I did some research on the Internet and some other people have reported resolving this issue by rolling back to an NVidia driver, such as 195.62 or 187.xx. I have not tried rolling back drivers to see if it helps and I am currently running 196.21.

Thanks!

@ManuelG,

You can add the game "Dragon Age: Origins" to the mix, the flickering is the same as the other two with SLI enabled. Running it with SLI disabled works fine, as with the other two games. I still have not tried rolling back my driver to an earlier version, but there are some reports of that working on the Internet. I will let you know if I find any others.

Thanks!
