Resolution resets after every reboot
  1 / 2
Hi,
I'm running an 8800 GT and a 7900 with Vista SP1. I have four monitors, 3 19" and a 30". This setup has worked fine for the last nine months.

I had to re-install vista last week. Now, after every reboot, my 30" monitor drops to 1280x1024 (which is the native on my 19" monitors - not sure if that has anythign to do with it). The 30" is set as the primary. I have set and reset everything I can think off.

After every reboot and resolution reset, I see an NVidia popup about it optimizing my display.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Nick H

I actually read over your thread - but your issue seems different. I looked over my control panel but my issue isn't overscan.

I think it's related to this that was added in the new driver in combination of multiple monitors.

Hotplug Behavior
When hotplugging or hot‐unplugging a digital display, the driver detects the display
and then configures the multi‐display mode and display resolution based on the
recent record of the displays connected. If no record exists, then the driver applies
default settings. A popup message appears at the system notification tray to alert the
user of the change.

The automatic display configuration also occurs upon powering on the computer and
booting into Windows Vista if the driver detects a change in display connections since
the last Windows session

Am getting the same problem, every time i reboot/log off it resets by 24" 1900x1200 display to 1900x1080 and changes the color on it to 8bit. It also keeps changing my 2nd or 3rd display to the primary despite the 24" having primary set in control panel. I have to disable the other 2 displays to get the start button back on my main display.

I have the same problem.

I have my resolution set to 1280 X 1024. However, every time I reboot it resets my resolution to 640 x 480.

I have a 8800 GTX and I am running Vista 32 bit. This issue started with the new 185.85 drivers

Interesting - I wonder if this is an issue with the 8000 series in conjunction with the new drivers.

2 x 8800 GTS (G92) SLI enabled
1 x 8600 GS in between

XFX 780i Motherboard.

Primary Monitor: LG 26" 1900x1200 (plugged into Card 1-8800 GTS)
Secondary Monitor: Samsung 46" HDTV (plugged into Card 1-8800 GTS)
Tertiary Monitor: LG 22" 1680x1050 (plugged into Card 2- 8600 GS)

*Card 3 is the other 8800 GTS, nothing plugged into it.

Using latest drivers, upon reboot the Tertiary monitor (8600 GS) takes over control of the window task bar/start bar. The Primary monitor resolution gets reset from 1900x1200 down to 1680x1050.

When I check under display properties, the Primary monitor still has both boxes checked "Use as windows primary monitor and extend my desktop to this monitor", however it does NOT have the taskbar assigned to it. The Tertiary monitor DOES have the taskbar, however under window display control panel, that box is NOT checked.

The only solution is to uncheck "extend desktop" to the Tertiary monitor, this forces the taskbar back to the real Primary monitor (26" LG with 8800 GTS) and then, reenable the Tertiary monitor. EACH REBOOT.

This needs to be fixed with the highest priority.

That is not really "solving the issue" with the 185 driver if you revert to 182. Also, can you change the name of this thread to "Multi Monitor Resolution/Primary Monitor does not save".

Thanks.

Well sorta depends on your point of view. I solved _MY_ issue in that I can now reboot /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

The driver is screwed - I think there's little doubt of that. Nvidia is going to have to do the fixing.

Happy to change the title, but I see no way to do it.

I just downloaded the new GeForce Release 185 for Notebooks WHQL for my gateway fx 7811 and I'm having a problem with setting up multiple displays.

Every time i start up my computer the screens flicker and flash and have to re-adjust them-selves before I can log in. Then when it finishes logging, in my previous settings are all messed up! I have a small 1024 x 1280 monitor to the left of my primary laptop 1920 X 1200 display. But for some reason it thinks I have the 1024 X 1280 on the right instead of the left where I previously set it up. So when I try to drag my mouse over to the left to the other screen it is abruptly stoped, instead of continuing to go to the left monitor.....So you can see why this is annoying. So Every time now, after I log in, I must go into the nvidia control panel and change it! /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I did not have this problem before with the beta mobile drivers released back in 2008. I would revert back to the old drivers, but these new drivers fix the game play lag in Halo combat evolved.

I have tried to readjust the settings by going into display options, disabling the (TMM) in taskscheduler...to no avail! >.<

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Can't help but can sympathize. I have dual GTX 280 cards and the new 185.85 driver and my resolution resets itself to 1600x900, instead of 1920x1080, on every reboot. It's not just an 8000 series problem. Never occurred before the 185.85 driver was installed.

Yeah I never had this issue with any other driver......I reverted back to the beta drivers.....but for some reason it got messed up and started over using my cores at max in every game! So i used driver sweeper.....which for some reason reverted me back to the 185? werid.....so i reinstalled the 185 drivers......hopefully i can live with the annoyance of chaning my display setup everytime i boot.....because i dont want to change my system anymore.....

PLEASE NVIDIA FX THIS ASAP!!!!!!
