GTA 4 FOREVER LOAD just wont start
So I just upgraded my pc completely... formatted my HDs, installed windows vista ultimate 64 bit sp1.. etc. So its CLEAN

installed GTA, and ... BUG
the game just wont load.
it stays in the loading screen (with the flashing characters and the breezy music)... then the music stops playing (after like 2 minutes) and the character slide show keep on looping for all eternity.

this is when you start a game, not when you load a previous save (i wouldnt know, i didnt get that far anyway).

Now, whats weird is that, on my previous build, i could play GTA 4 without this issue. i played like 10 missions before i turned off the pc to remove parts and insert new ones in.

This issue is also an ongoing thread at gtaforums.com http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=380464
im just posting this here to possibly increase my chances of finding a solution. everything suggested at gtaforums.com i have already tried out and it didnt solve my issue.

My previous "working" build:
Intel Bad Axe 2 MOBO
Core2Duo 2.4ghz OC 2.6ghz
4 gigs G.Skill 667mhz ram
MSI GeForce 8800 Ultra OC
180.84 Beta Driver
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit SP1

My Current "Bugged" build:
EVGA 790i FTW (non-digital) MOBO
Quad Q9550 2.83ghz
4 gigs Patriot 1600mhz 777-20 ram
MSI GeForce 8800 Ultra OC
180.84 Beta Driver
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP1

please, if anyone knows of anything that might help.. please let me know.
thank you in advance

Its a driver issue, or fire wall problem. Make sure your game is unblocked. If that does not work then google drivers 178.24

tried both of your suggestions...

no change.

weird thing is.. my cpu never goes beyond 6% during the loading process. in fact not one of the four cores go over 10%.

and my HD led blinks consistently as if it was actually loading.

of course yesterday i let it load for 1 hour 35 minutes... when i turned the screen back on it was still there.. with the characters flashing....

gahhh

no need to watch a video to fix it. its easy, just don't allow nvcp or other apps to force vsync on gta4
