Update you drivers. Check the FAQ for step-by-step directions for downloading and installing Desktop drivers.

If you're using a notebook GPU, you'll need to contact your notebook's manufacturer for official drivers. For unofficial drivers, other users often suggest inf-modded drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

While yes it could be the driver if it was from the installation CD. Most likely its not the version of the driver that needs to get updated, NVIDIA needs to give us a driver that will stop crashing. Every version of this driver that I have installed keeps crashing and killing my programs. My 9800 GTX is the first nvidia card in the last 10 years and with this kind of performance as of right now my next card will not be from nvidia. I would rather have a slower card that works all the time.
Usually you get this error message when performing a specific task, and if that happens you need to check the corresponding 3rd party's website/support department to see if they are aware of the problem

Yes, its only been an NVIDIA driver that has crashed my apps. I wouldn't be so mad if the blame was spread a round a bit, but so far the crashing has been with only one companies software.
