GeForce FX 5500 4x AGP Upgrade from a FX 5500
Have an ASUS P4PE with the FX 5500 and am about to change my P4 2.66 processor to the P4 3.06 which has the multithreading capability.

Next I will upgrade the video card but could not find a list showing the list of cards with performance improvement from my FX 5500 that will work with my motherboard.

Can anyone suggest what video card I should move up to with my limited 4x AGP motherboard?

Thank you.

Hi Benito Loyola,

AGP4x is not much difference to AGP8x. Take your pick of the AGP cards and you will still get value for money. My choice is 7600GT.

Agreed, AGP 8x cards *should* still work in AGP 4x motherboards.

Greetings,
They do work, as I just bought a 7600gt, and while scores in AQ3 etc, are not up to scratch, gaming is fine, at least for me, I can easily play CoH, with model detail maxed, and most other things on med-high, with very little slowdown, and with your better processor......
Is yours a socket 478?
If not, wou might aswell go for the e6300, it will beat that P4 any day, but if not, it will give you a great boost

The ASUS P4P3 is a 478 socket. Also I just ordered a EVGA 256-A8-N542-T2 7600GS - ($119.99) They listed it as a AGP 8X/4X I will do a benchmark test for each upgrade and see how these two changes affect performance. Also have 1 gig of RAM and will upgrade to 2 Gigs. Hope that for a $350 upgrade minus what I can get for the parts on eBay I will have a pretty nice system.

Thanks for your input.
