Dungeon Siege 2 Performance Why is it so slow?
I've been playing Dungeon Siege 2 for a while and it's a really fun game but i don't understand why it has such low fps. I upgraded my GF4 ti4600 to an 6800 Ultra and there was hardly any improvement. My system is Athlon XP 2700+ with 1GB ram. It doesn't really matter if i play it @ 1600x1200 or 800x600, i always get 20fps average (+/-25 when doing nothing).
A friend of mine has an Athlon 64 3400+ with 850XT and he get's 75fps where i get only 25. Ok his system is faster but not that much faster. I also noticed the ATI 850XT ad in the manual so i guess the game was primarily build for/on ati systems but the difference is WAY to big.

On the Gaspowered forums there's one guy with an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and 7800GTX and even he doesn't get a lot better framerate. Link

I don't know, I have a AMD64 OC'd to 4000+, my performance in DS2 was very good. BTW a AMD64 is considerably faster than a same mhz speed AMDXP, completely different architecture. Also Dual-Core AMD64's are generally clocked lower than Single Core AMD64's that may be why the person with the dual-core isn't getting much higher than you in performance. Also DS2 only supports single-core cpu's.

If you disable the vsync (setting to off) in the nv controls you will see an increase in FPS. I get around 75+fps with the game 1600x1200 4x 8x. Also you have to edit the ini file to get the res of 16x12 if you want it that big.

where did you get that info? i'm really curious just because the minimum system requirements say:

System Requirements
Minimum:
OS: Windows XP SP3, Vista SP1, Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz or equivalent
Memory: 1.5 GB
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3870 or NVIDIA 9800 GT
DirectX®: DirectX® 9.0c
Hard Drive: 4 GB for full installation
Sound: No accelerated sound hardware required

that's from the game store page on steam so is that a typo the part where it says "Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz or equivalent"?
