Passing through 5.1 audio from HDMI port on GTX 460 > TV > Surround System
Is this possible? I have an LG 55UB850V Smart TV. My setup is: GTX460 HDMI PORT > HDMI SWITCHER WITH AN XBOX ONE CONNECTED ALSO > SWITCH OUTPUT PLUGGED IN TV HDMI1 PORT > OPTICAL CABLE AUDIO OUT FROM TV TO MY SURROUND SOUND (ALSO CONNECTED BY [HDMI2 ARC IN] CONNECTION ON TV & [HDMI OUT] ON SURROUND SYSTEM) The [optical in] and [HDMI out] are the only two ports on my surround sound. Windows 10 sound settings only shows 2 audio channels, and therefore the only option it gives is stereo. (I'm assuming because it just detects the tv as a stereo device). I doubt this is an issue with the HDMI switch or cables as I get surround sound for my xbox one plugged in the same port via bitstream. My virginmedia tivo cable box plugged in HDMI4 gives me surround on the HD Channels, and my PS4Pro in HDMI3 gives DTS surround, so I know the tv CAN pass through 5.1 audio. My question is, if all my other devices can do it, why can't my pc? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Bad setup. TV's capabilities take priority and only stereo will present. You need hacked firmware to pass over multichannel audio with lg tv's. Receiver should always be between the tv and and console/pc

Hi, thanks for the reply - I understand what you are saying but for my other connected devices my tv recognises a DTS or a dolby digital 5.1 signal and sends it to my receiver, however my gtx 460 refuses to even try to output in anything other than stereo. That's what i'm trying to rectify, can I force it to output higher than stereo?

I've tried googling EDID mod and have spent a good few hours trying to get my head round how you edit it to detect the 5.1, but I have no idea really what Im supposed to be doing. More confusing for me is that on Moninfo, which is one of the tools they tell you to use, it shows: CE audio data (formats supported) DTS 6-channel, 1536k max. bit rate at 44/48 kHz AC-3 6-channel, 640k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48/96/192 kHz so it does detect my device supports 6 channel, what to do what to do...
